The Hartford IMA supports the Certified Management Accountant (CMA) designation and provides continuing education for those working in management accounting. This society is similar to our own in that they host monthly dinner meetings that provide continuing education to their membership base.

For those of the APICS membership who have attended our joint events with the IMA, you know that the their Chapter is a key partner of APICS Hartford. They are a fantastic group that is very active and creative with the topics that they feature.

This particular event was on Communication Do’s & Don’ts and was presented by Mark Zampino, Public Affairs Director for the Connecticut Society of CPAs. The event was very informative and Mark did a wonderful job breaking down the benefits of effective communication and the different ways we communicate beyond words. He also highlighted how important it is to be an active and engaged listener.

Although the focus of APICS Hartford is on operations management, there are great benefits in partnering with other educational societies. One of those is exposing our members to the offerings of experts in various fields. This provides access to information that your entire organization can use to continue on with life long education, being ready to network, and face any business challenge you may encounter.

If you have an accounting department that is looking to continuously improve, please have them check out the Hartford IMA. Who says accountants can’t have fun?
